Traveling to Rwanda – Visas
Country entry requirement: The government of Rwanda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers, except infants.
Foreign Nationals wishing to obtain Rwandan Visas, submit their applications to Rwandan Diplomatic Missions of their Country of residence for processing.
In the case of those coming from countries where we don’t have a Diplomatic Mission, they should request for an entry facility on line which will be used to obtain a visa on any official point of entry in Rwanda.
In view of the bilateral agreements, the Nationals of the following countries may visit Rwanda without visa for a period up to 90 days: USA, Germany, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Uganda, Mauritius, South Africa, Kenya, Great Britain, Sweden, Singapore, Hong Kong and Burundi.
The visitor’s visa should not be used for employment.
Kindly note that in some cases it takes a minimum of 22 days to get VISA approval, including travelling out of Europe or Canada.
Australia, Germany, Israel, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States, will now part with an entry visa fee of $30, valid for a period of 30 days.
This can be paid at the immigration desk on entry at Kigali International Airport or at land borders.
As of the 1 November 2014 see below who will need a visa:
- Australia, Germany, Israel, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States, will now part with an entry visa fee of $30, valid for a period of 30 days. This can be paid at the immigration desk on entry at Kigali International Airport or at land borders.
- The new policy also indicates that citizens from within the East African Community will continue to be issued with six-month visitors pass at entry points at no fee, while those from DR Congo will continue getting visitors’ visa for a stay not exceeding 90 days.
- Nationals of Singapore, Hong Kong, Mauritius and Philippines are exempted from acquiring tourist visa for a stay of up to 90 days.
- Nationals of African countries not exempted from visa fee will continue getting the visa at entry points, including the airport and water landing sites.
- The rest of the nationals whose countries are not mentioned will get visa upon application before traveling and also pay subscription fees

Tourism
Tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors Despite the genocide, the country is increasingly perceived internationally as a safe destination.
Rwanda’s most popular tourist activity is the tracking of mountain gorillas, which takes place in the Volcanoes National Park. Other attractions include Nyungwe Forest, home to chimpanzees, Ruwenzori colobus and other primates, the resorts of Lake Kivu, and Akagera, a small savanna reserve in the east of the country. Each year in June, the country celebrates Kwita Izina – The Baby Mountain Gorilla Naming Ceremony. People come from all over the country and the world to participate in this unique event.
